How to calculate OPS
Work out on-base percentage and slugging percentage from the same stat line, then add them. Keep both unrounded until the end: adding two rounded numbers can be off by .001.
OPS rewards getting on base and hitting for power in one number. Because the two parts have different denominators, it is a quick summary rather than an exact measure, which is why coaches often look at its two halves as well.
Questions
Is OPS the same as OPS+?
No. OPS+ adjusts OPS for the league and the ballpark and sets the league average at 100. That needs league-wide data. This calculator gives plain OPS.
Why does my OPS differ by .001 from a website?
Rounding. This calculator adds the unrounded OBP and SLG, then rounds once.
Is my data stored?
No. The math runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent anywhere or put in analytics.
